Basalt Rebar for Precast Concrete

BASTECH® basalt fiber reinforced polymer (BFRP) is made by using a continuous process of pultrusion to create high-quality reinforced fibers, using inert epoxy resin and Continuous Basalt Fiber (CBF).

Continuous Basalt Fiber (CBF) is formed from natural basalt rock through a single melt, free of chemical additives, producing an environmentally friendly and sustainable product that has 60% less CO2 emissions than steel.

BASTECH® Rebar offers several advantages, including:

  • Has a tensile strength 2.5 times greater than steel
  • Is 5 times lighter than steel, making it easier to handle, install and provide fewer labor strains
  • Provides a noncorrosive and rust-free condition
  • Properties are nonconductive, nonmagnetic and UV stable
  • Has resistance to seawater, alkaline conditions, microorganisms, acid and other corrosives
  • Allows for transparency to radio frequencies, providing a solution for smart infrastructure
  • Can be used to reduce the amount of concrete needed as much as 30%

With a 100 year service life, BASTECH® Rebar will support all types of infrastructure and significantly reduces maintenance needs when compared to steel, which typically fails due to corrosion when unprotected after approximately 30-35 years. The lighter weight allows for safer and quicker installation, increased efficiency and reduced equipment usage and direct increases to production in any precast manufacturing facility.

Our factory produces straight rebar in sizes ranging from #2 to #8 as well as custom bent rebar shapes and configurations such as stirrups and other specialized products made possible by our advanced manufacturing technology. We also work closely with the engineering staff of precast manufacturers to create design specifications compatible with their respective production methods.
